Summer 2025 Study Abroad Opportunity:

A Comparison of Healthcare Systems and Population Health in Thailand and Vietnam

What are the program dates?

June 1-14, 2025.

Students will leave the U.S. on Sunday June 1 for an overnight flight to arrive in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday, June 2. Students will leave Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to fly home on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

How many students will you take?

This opportunity will be limited to 10-12 students. The small class size will facilitate in-depth discussions, a close-knit group, and personalized feedback and mentorship.

What kind of student are you looking for?

This program is open to undergraduate students from all majors. This program is appropriate for students interested in a broad range of health careers, healthcare, health systems, allied health, or population health.

 What class will I take?

The classes offered are:

HSMA 4083: Global Healthcare Management and Population Health in Thailand Vietnam: Writing and;

HSMA 4083: Global Healthcare Management and Population Health in Thailand Vietnam: Experiential Learning

How many credits will I earn?

Each course is 3 credits each for a possible total of 6 credits.

If you are not a Health Services Management major, contact the director of your major to find out how HSMA 4083 might count for your major.

Does the advertised program cost include tuition and fees?

Yes, the cost of the program includes your tuition and fees, so there will be no additional tuition charged.

What are the course requirements?

You will complete online readings, lectures, and assignments two weeks prior to departure. During the trip, you will visit private and public hospitals, participate in cultural visits and excursions, and keep a reflection journal. Upon returning to the US, you will finish course assignments in an online format.

What is the program cost?

The program cost is XXXX This price includes tuition and fees, hotel lodging, all breakfasts, airport transfers to and from hotels, entrance fees, in-country travel, and guides. The program cost does not include international airfare.

 Where will we stay?

We will stay in hotels in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ho Chi Minh City, and Na Trang. Hotels will have shared, twin rooms for students with en-suite bathrooms.

Do I have to make my own flight arrangements?

Yes. We will not have group travel from the US to Southeast Asia. We will give students a time range to arrive in Bangkok where we will meet as a group to begin our trip. We choose not to book group flights for several reasons. For example, some students live outside of Greenville during the summer and may fly from different US different airports.

When do I book my flights?

Do not book any flights until the program leader directs you to. This will likely be in March 2025. More information will be forthcoming about which airports to fly into and out of and what times to arrive and depart.
